刺すことによって時間を積層する
Textile works that inscribe time through persistent stitching.
こぎん刺しの技法を用い、針と糸による反復の行為を通して時間の痕跡を積層しています。
私がこぎん刺しの技法で制作する理由はいくつかありますが、そのうちの一つは模様の現れ方と作業性の規則正しさに強く惹かれるからです。元来、幾何学模様が好きで目数を追って針を刺すという一連の作業は、自分を中心に戻してくれます。
そして支持体との関係性も理由の一つです。支持体の表裏を行き来する針の運動は、布と深く関わりながら、時間の層を形成します。
こぎん刺しは、本来、保温と補強のために生まれた生活の技法です。そこには女性の労働やケアの時間が刺し込まれてきました。幾何学模様は装飾であると同時に、過酷な日常で編み出された秩序と遊びの痕跡でもありました。
私自身もまたケア労働の只中にいます。現代社会において、ケアの時間の多くは経済的価値として十分に可視化されません。生産性によって時間が測られる社会において、断片的な時間を持続させることは、価値の基準そのものを静かに問い直す行為でもあるのです。
I work with the kogin zashi technique, layering traces of time through the repetitive act of stitching with needle and thread.
There are several reasons why I choose kogin as my method. One of them is my strong attraction to the way patterns emerge and to the regularity of its process. I have long been drawn to geometric forms, and the act of counting threads and inserting the needle in sequence brings me back to a centered state.
Another reason lies in its relationship to the support. The movement of the needle, traveling back and forth between the front and back of the fabric, engages deeply with the cloth and forms layers of time within it.
Kogin embroidery originally developed as a vernacular technique for warmth and reinforcement. Embedded within it are the labor of women and the time of care. The geometric patterns are not only decorative; they are also traces of order and play devised within the constraints of harsh daily life.
I, too, exist within the midst of care labor. In contemporary society, much of the time devoted to care is not adequately recognized as economic value. In a society where time is measured by productivity, sustaining fragmented intervals of time becomes a quiet act of questioning the very criteria by which value itself is defined.

埼玉県熊谷市出身。東京藝術大学工芸科染織専攻卒業。
現在、名古屋を拠点に制作。

I encountered Tsugaru kogin needlework in 2010 and began learning the technique,
starting my artistic practice shortly thereafter.
In recent years, my work has focused on repetition as an act
and on time as it quietly accumulates through stitching.
Born in Saitama, Japan.
B.A. in Textile Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts.
Currently based in Nagoya.
